Hans Hoekstra, Untitled, 2006, oil on canvas
This painting says a lot about the uncomfortable, raw moments in a family. The girl sitting on the bed, staring away purposely (or seemingly purposely, rather) is the reason for what appears to be a sombre interrogation, the kind “perfect” families attempt to avoid for as long as their family thrives. Though this interrogation seems to be one not of anger but of a frustration. The girl feels dejected with her current emotional, psychological, mental state and her parents are attempting to alter this to benefit the perfect appearance their family perpetually exudes. There will be no yelling here.
